The Fairchild Challenge is a free, multidisciplinary environmental contest run through the Chicago Botanic Garden. The Challenge is an excellent tool for high school students to express their talents and passions and be recognized for their commitment and efforts on behalf of the environment.
In addition to offering numerous prizes and opportunities for recognition, the Challenge provides excellent resources for teachers and students including supply grants, free in-school arts workshops, and an environmentally-themed symposium. Transportation stipends are offered for travel to all Fairchild Challenge events including the annual poetry slam, student gallery exhibit, music concert, awards ceremony and aforementioned symposium.
All Fairchild Challenge events are free of charge to Illinois high schools. Substitute teacher stipends are offered for participation in the annual youth symposium, which will take place at The Field Museum on February 20th 2009. Speaker sessions, workshops and exhibits will focus on topics surrounding fresh water.
